How do you keep ahead of your competitors in a world where nothing stays the same for more than a moment? How do you get a workforce and a company to shift directions fast to face a future that is almost unknowable?

"Change Management" is a structured approach to shifting/transitioning individuals, teams, and organizations from a current state to a desired future state, ensuring that changes are thoroughly and smoothly implemented, and that the lasting benefits are achieved. It is an organizational process aimed at helping change stakeholders to accept and embrace changes in their business environment.

Change Management entails thoughtful planning and sensitive implementation, and above all, consultation with, and involvement of, the people affected by the changes. If you force change on people normally problems arise. A proactive change must be realistic, achievable and measurable. 

Change Management Into Clinical Health IT. Why It Matters?

Managing change is tough. When it comes to technology, programs and devices are only effective if clinicians use them and adopt them into their workflows. The big question is, "How do CIOs manage a culture shift successfully?".

Good project managers must act effectively to ensure project success, avoid the loss of valued employees, and minimize the negative impact of the change on productivity and a company's customers.

Changes to services and organisations can often be difficult, especially for nurses and doctors. Top down change can feel threatening and destabilising. Many colleagues find it difficult to see the potential benefits. The changes may impact on the role, position and the status of individuals and therefore may test levels of self-confidence and confidence in others.

Change may require new clinical responsibilities, time for training and development, and an openness to new ways of doing things. It also requires letting go of previous practice. May require significant investment in people, systems, equipment and facilities, and is therefore likely to require financial backing. These challenges make the planning of the change process a prerequisite for success.

Today's Health Care manager occupies an extremely challenging position: How to maintain a competitive edge in the health care market while leading an organization through constant change. Rapid change is occurring as Health Care Organizations (HCOs) strive to adopt new technology such as the Electronic Health Record (EHR), implement quality improvement initiatives, and institute pay-for-performance plans. To deal with this change and help employees transition to new ways of doing things, managers need an edge.

Synthetic What?

Synthetic Biology is a new area of Biological Research and Technology that combines Science and Engineering. It encompasses a variety of different approaches, methodologies, and disciplines with a variety of definitions.The common goal is the Design and Construction of new Biological Functions and Systems not found in Nature.

The Scientists who engage in Synthetic Biology research approach the creation of new Biological system from different perspectives, focusing on finding how life works (the origin of life) or how to use it to benefit society. 

The former focus includes the approach of Biology, inserting man-made DNA into a living cell; and Chemistry, working on gene synthesis as an extension of Synthetic Chemistry. The latter focus includes Engineering, building the new Biological System as a platform for various Technologies; and rewriting, rebuilding the natural systems to provide the Engineered surrogates.

The advance of synthetic biology relies on several key enabling technologies provided at ever increasing speed and lower cost. DNA sequencing, fabrication of genes, modeling how synthetic genes behave, and precisely measuring gene behavior are essential tools in synthetic Biology. Enjoy the video!

Intel Launches SDK for OpenCL Applications at SIGGRAPH 2012

Los Angeles - SIGGRAPH 2012, the World's Premier Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, welcomed 21,212 Artists, Research Scientists, Gaming Experts and Developers, Filmmakers, Students, and Academics from 83 Countries around the globe to Los Angeles this week. 

In addition, 161 Industry Organizations exhibited at SIGGRAPH 2012 representing 44,750 sq. ft. of exhibit space - approximately a 5,000 sq. ft. increase over 2011. 

A total of 19 Countries where represented on the show floor. “As SIGGRAPH 2012 draws to a close, I’m incredibly proud of the body of work that represents thousands of hours of effort from hundreds of volunteers,” said Rebecca Strzelec, SIGGRAPH 2012 Conference Chair from Penn State Altoona. 

SIGGRAPH 2012 was the launch pad for Computer Graphics and Animation Development, including the Beta release of the Intel® SDK for OpenCL. 

We caught up with Ryan Tabrah from the Intel Visual Computing Software group and asked him for a Demo of the new Software. 

He grabbed an Ultrabook and showed us the difference between an in-body Simulation running on a CPU versus the Intel HD Graphics. He then used them both, demonstrating how Developers can optimize their performance for Intel architecture.
