Furious 7: The Fast Boys Are Back With An Epic Trailer

Hello guys. How are you? If you have been around for the last decade or so then you’ll probably remember a little film called The Fast and The Furious. Here we are 13 years later and the franchise is still going strong! 

Furious 7 has been one of this year’s most anticipated films. The fans are interested to see what new direction the producers are going to take the film, after suffering the loss of one of its main characters; Brian O’ Conner, played by Paul Walker.

Walker was killed in a high-speed car crash in November of 2013 and the producers, finished filming and wrapped up, despite his death. Walker’s brothers were enlisted to help with key scenes in the movie. One can’t help but think of the recent tragedy involving Heath Ledgers passing, during the production of The Dark Night. The cast and crew for Furious 7 has been together for so long and the Vin Diesel, one of the producers, often referred to the crew as "family". Paul, Tyrese and Vin were all very close; both on and off screen.

But... the show must go on right? Fans were treated to a trailer that can only be summed up in one word: EPIC. If the film promises to be as action packed as the preview, then get ready for a visual feast. The movie is set to hit theaters April 2015 and has already generated a huge buzz.

The Plot:

In this film, the team ends up in Tokyo after learning of their friend Han’s death. They meet Sean Boswell who was also friends with Han. Teaming up with Boswell and some extra allies, they set out to find the person responsible for murdering Han. Enter Ian Shaw, played by Jason Statham.

Jason Statham (the older brother of Owen Shaw, the bad guy from Fast 6) joins the Furious 7 entourage as, the new villain that the cast faces off against. As you may have guessed Shaw is hunting the crew down to avenge the death of his younger brother. Statham is a seasoned action movie star and should be able to hold his own when it comes to the action sequences.

Another addition to the cast is Kurt Russell. He is seen for a brief moment in the preview and has a somewhat ominous air about him. From the 3 seconds he’s in the preview, one can already tell that his character is hard to get a bead on. Russell has even said that his character is staged to be suspicious. He can be seen, kind of, mentoring Dominc Toretto in the preview, so the film may play out the misplaced trust notion. This is just speculation, no spoilers. 

With the passing of Paul Walker, one of the most asked questions by the fans is; what is going to be the fate of Brian O’ Conner? It turns out that O’ Conner will get fitting send off. 

Writer Chris Morgan and director James Wan are reworking the script and using previously shot footage of Walker, to give him a suiting farewell. This will still allow the franchise to continue and, if they want to risk it, they can maybe bring O’ Conner back for a cameo or still involve him with the story in some way. There has even been talk of bringing Paul’s brother Cody on, as a new addition to the crew. In the meantime Walker’s other brother Caleb will be filling in for Paul’s scenes.

The whole process is a really fine line to tread. On the one hand there is a movie that needs to be finished, but in a way that leaves the fans satisfied. On the other hand, no one wants to disrespect the memory of Paul Walker. Giving him a “send off into the sunset” seems like a win-win for everyone.

Furious 7 kicks off with action and story right out of the gate. Two members of the crew are now dead and Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is injured. Fans can only assume that the story is building up to O’ Conner’s farewell. Dark, would be going a bit too far to describe the tone of this movie, perhaps pensive is a bit better. The fans will get a sense that the family Dominic has worked hard to put together, isn’t as ‘bulletproof’ as they used to be.

Despite the passing of Paul Walker being a huge tragedy, the film looks as though it will not disappoint and be a fitting final role. I'm looking forward to this, for sure. Can't wait!

Galaxy Note 2 reported to have a snappier Exynos 4 Quad Chip

Samsung's successor to Galaxy Note is rumored to have a 5.5 inch screen with 720p display and a 1.6Ghz Exynos 4 Quad Core processor. Expected to be unveiled at IFA, the inclusion of the Exynos was discovered in a GLBenchmark, which has surprisingly been pulled from the site. So it could mean that it was a Note 2 or an overclocked S3 ? 

According to PocketNow, the model number for the previous Note was GT-N7000. The benchmark listed the unknown device as GT-7100. In addition to the mention of a 1.6GHz Exynos 4 Quad, the benchmark data also mentions a 720p display, as opposed to the original Note’s 1280 x 800 screen.

ASUS Computex 2012 - Endless Possibilities : Does one plus one always equal two?

With a few days to go until Computex 2012 kicks off, Asus has decided to put up a few short teaser videos that include various hints at certain features that upcoming Asus devices could offer. 

But more importantly, some of these videos suggest that the Android device maker may announce a dual-booting Android - Windows 8 Device next week. 

Speculations of course have run wild! Another speculation has been that this could be a new all-in-one Computer from Asus that would run on both operating systems.

The first video below is entitled “The Incredible Transformations” and teases a tablet that will come with a keyboard, will pack certain cloud-related powers and that will be unveiled in Taiwan. That “Transformation” part of the title suggests that we could be looking at the next-gen Transformer model teased in the video.

By itself, the 43-second teaser video is not that exciting, since we already knew Asus can produce some interesting Android tablets. But Asus released two more teaser videos, shorter than the first one, to make sure tablet fans are paying attention.

The second teaser, entitled “All-in-One is No Longer In One” is a 16-second spot that clearly shows two distinct logos in water drops – see the images above. We’re looking at the Windows 8 and Android logos, each one present in its own drop of water. That clearly suggests that at least one of Asus future tablets will be able to run Android and Windows 8, a combination that plenty of tablet users would enjoy.

The third teaser, called “When Two Sides Unite”, a 17-second clip, also indicates that an upcoming Asus tablet will pack two “sides” that will be available on the same device. We’re obviously looking at Android and Windows 8, as no other mobile OS combination would make sense. The words “Tai” and “Chi” are present on either side of that piece of paper. Together, “Tai Chi” stands for an Asian martial arts style.

Whatever the case we are now hooked and we want to see what Asus is cooking.

Facebook Plans to Create A New Search Engine: Should Google Worry?

Social networking giant Facebook is reportedly planning to create a new search engine which would help people to experience a more fluid navigation on the website. 

A Bloomberg Business week report said the firm has deployed two-dozen Facebook engineers onto the ambitious project, which aims to improve the search engine currently available on the social network. According to the report, the project is led by former Google engineer Lars Rasmussen. 

The magazine's unnamed sources said that the project is "to help users better sift through the volume of content that members create on the site, such as status updates, articles, videos, and other information across the Web that people "Like" using Facebook's omnipresent thumbs-up button".

Based on The Telegraph, Facebook has done very little to improve its search engine, which currently lets people find other users, brands, status updates and some wider web results, through a long-standing partnership with Microsoft's search engine, Bing. It has yet to properly focus it's attention on the small search engine box situated at the top of each users' page.

Meanwhile, Facebook has declined to comment on the matter.

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Screenshots: Build 8250 Has Been Compiled

We already know that Microsoft would be releasing Windows 8 Consumer Preview on February 29 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Various sources on the web are reporting that Microsoft has compiled the public Windows 8 Consumer Preview Build, 8250. They are saying that this will be the final build that will be released next week. 

Tom Warren at the Verge already reports that the final build of Windows 8 (8250) is expected to get signed off on this coming Friday. More significant is the news of a download time: Microsoft will unveil its Windows 8 CP work during a special event at MWC in Barcelona next Wednesday. We are told that the company will release the preview to the public at the beginning of the event, which kicks off at 3PM CET (9AM ET). Build 8250 includes a number of preinstalled games and apps, as well as the new Windows 8 logo.

Once you are ready to install the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, you may need to get new hardware to install it on. Now Microsoft have said that Windows 8 will work on any hardware that can run Windows 7, so you should be able to install the Windows 8 Consumer Preview on your current PC.

Apple iPhone 5 - Ready for Production

We received word from a reliable source at Foxconn in China that the iPhone 5, as it is currently being called, is now gearing for production. 

 The source said various sample devices are also floating around (they vary slightly from one another), so it is impossible to tell which one will be the final. Some things in common with all of them, however, are: 

- 4+ inch display (made by LG on at least one of them). 

- No teardrop-shaped devices, as rumored in the lead up to the iPhone 4S. Samples so far have been symmetrical in thickness (also longer/wider). 

- Neither of the sample devices have the iPhone 4/4S form factor. 

- Neither of the devices are the final versions. 

We also heard the non-teardrop and 4-inch display information previously in a report from iLounge, but what is important to note here is that iPhone 4S production did not gear up until late spring of last year. If we follow patterns and give a five month-ish lead time, it would appear that Apple is back on its new iPhone launch for summer/WWDC pattern that it maintained until last year. 

We are still a long way off however. 

This source is the same that indicated to us late last summer that the iPhone 5 was not happening against the prevailing tide of information, and that Apple was building the iPhone 4S model instead. 

iPhone 5  - Lytro Camera Technology

The iPhone 5 News Blog picked up on a general 9to5Mac story about Steve Jobs having a chat with the CEO of a cool startup, Lytro, that makes a camera using some far-out technology that neither blog seems to really understand, or at least explain.

"iPhone 5 enthusiasts are hearing more about Lytro camera technology," writes Michael Nace, of The iPhone 5 News Blog. "Will Apple equip the iPhone 5 with Lytro, or go with the new Sony camera sensor?"

Nace inadvertently reveals one of the central dynamics that drive iPhone 5, and iPad 3, rumors. "With this kind of technology, it's no wonder that analysts have imagined it being included on the iPhone 5," he writes. If it's awesome, how can it not be in the Next Whatever?

We couldn't find dimensions for the Lytro camera, but a picture we found online shows fitting it into any current or future iPhone would qualify as a "radical" redesign. And the price tag, ranging from $399 to $499, would radically redesign the iPhone in another way.

9to5Mac built its story on two points : Lytro's technology (which you can try to follow at the company's website) and a brief passage from an upcoming book about Apple, describing a brief meeting between Steve Jobs and Lytro CEO Ren Ng. Even Nace notes, "While Apple and Lytro never forged any kind of partnership or licensing agreement, Steve Jobs reportedly picked their brains over the technology, and was incredibly excited about its possibilities."

And so, clearly, is the iOSphere.

And then after all that buildup, Nace topples it like a house of cards. "In spite of Jobs loving Lytro, however, it is still more likely that the iPhone 5 will debut with the new Sony 8MP camera sensor we wrote about recently," he concludes. Partly because Lytro "is still a relatively bulky technology that isn't at all suited to the ultra-thin trend that the iPhone 5 form factor seems to be moving toward."

If he'd just made that point at the beginning, we'd have been spared another rumor about another rumor.

iPhone 5 Will Be Named... iPhone 5

Must be a slow rumor week over at Beatweek. The Beatweek staff posted a story with the headline "iPhone 5 is sixth generation, but likely to retain '5' moniker."

"If the iPhone 4S is the fifth generation iPhone, then what is the iPhone 5? That's the question for Apple marketing execs to chew over from now until the device's launch later this year, as their upcoming sixth generation smartphone has already been popularly branded 'iPhone 5' even as a handful of skeptics point out that such a moniker would be outside of standard naming conventions."

It's so easy to imagine the anguish of Apple's marketing execs, hands pressed to their heads, moaning, "Oh woe! What are we to do? What will we call it? If we call it 'iPhone 5' all those skeptics will point out that it's outside of standard naming conventions. Oh woe. What would Steve do?"

iPhone 5 Will Have NFC

Power Retail thinks "Rumours That iPhone 5 Will Support NFC Ring True"

And that's because there's actually a foundation in fact, as reported by Power Retail's Campbell Phillips : "Visa confirms it is in discussion with Apple to include NFC technology in the next version of the iPhone, but it may still be months away. There is light at the end of the tunnel after all for iPhone users, Bill Gadja, the Global Head of Mobile Product says."

This is almost shocking : a real person, with a name and a title and company affiliation, offers an opinion.

"I can't tell you when Apple is going to put NFC in the next version of the iPhone," Gadja told business magazine Fast Company, "but we've had discussions with them around the PayWave standard and they've asked to look at our specification and certification process so that when they do decide to do something those lines of communication are open."

iPhone 5 Will Have a Physical Camera Button Because it Really Needs One

Technically speaking, Matthew Panzarino's thoughtful story at The Next Web, "Why the iPhone should have a dedicated physical shutter button" is an argument for the button, not a rumor about it.

But we're shortcutting the iOSphere rumorization process of linking to a post and then extending it: "Will iPhone 5 have shutter button?" and then "iPhone 5 expected to have shutter button" and "Sources say iPhone 5 have shutter button" and finally "iPhone 5 likely to have shutter button."

In any case, Panzarino, the news and Apple editor for TNW, clearly has given this some thought. His basic argument is that the current position of the rear-facing camera and the use of the volume button as the shutter button makes for an awkward, unstable and suboptimal shooting experience.

Instead, he wants a grip that looks like (this) where an index finger can just naturally press a dedicated button, and the grip keeps the whole thing steady. His hope: Apple is positioning the iPhone as your primary everyday camera, and the dedicated physical shutter button will be a big step toward that goal. And he notes the new Nokia 800 has come to the same conclusion.

Windows 8 Release Date Rumor : Possible Summer 2012 Release?

We just got wind of a rumor from a somewhat reliable source about the Windows 8 release date.

The gist of it is that Microsoft are internally considering releasing Windows 8 to the public much sooner than the October date that is being bandied around on blogs.

The rumor is that based on the current pace of development (ahead of schedule), they feel that a June or July 2012 release date is possible. Also, there have allegedly been discussions about getting the final OS released to the public before a possible third iteration of the popular Apple Ipad hits the market.

In addition, the software company is rumored to be receiving a LOT of pressure from hardware vendors to expedite the release the OS as soon as possible.

We haven't been able to substantiate this rumor but our source is somewhat reliable.

I personally would be surprised if Microsoft wait until October to release Windows 8, 9 months seems like an eternity in this business even though I fully understand that this would be somewhat consistent with previous releases.

Microsoft Office for Ipad

Microsoft have said that they will be launching a version of their best selling productivity suite Office on the iPad. Microsoft will probably break out the apps from the suite and sell them separately and will probably make quite a lot of money. This is however a major double edged sword for Microsoft if they take this approach.

On one hand, the Ipad is the tablet juggernaut to beat and if Microsoft can get those users on Office, it is a substantial amount of revenue for the company. On the other hand, once iPad users are on Office, you have just removed a MAJOR incentive for anyone to buy a Windows 8 Tablet. 

You have also removed the one selling point that you could have made to CIO’s for selling Windows 8 Tablets into the enterprise - integration with Office. 

Now, I’m sure Microsoft will scale down the versions of Office that will go out on the iPad and I’m sure the case can be made that Windows 8 Tablets can be more thoroughly integrated with the enterprise but still… it’s a tough decision. So, I’m going to pass the decision to you.

Oops: Microsoft Accidentally Reveals Secret Social Project So.cl

Hello folks. Today i have some interesting news for you...It seems that Microsoft is working on a metro social/design project called Socl, according to details from a splash page that was accidentally published.

As of Thursday, Microsoft has taken down the splash page and replaced it with a message acknowledging the project.

“Thanks for stopping by. So.cl is an internal design project from a team in Microsoft Research which was mistakenly published to the web. We didn’t mean to, honest,” the message states.

While I believe that publishing the splash page was an accident, I don’t believe Socl is simply an “internal design project”. The splash page (pictured above) describes the Socl service as a way for users to “find what you need and share what you know easier than ever”. There are options to connect the service with both Facebook and Twitter. The page also contains two rows of images that look very similar to the “Tiles” interface (metro) design found on Microsoft’s Window’s Phone operating system.

Also, the splash page’s domain name is shorthand for “Social”. I think it’s obvious that Microsoft is planning to do much more with Socl than it’s letting on. The company was unavailable for further comment on its plans for So.cl at the time of publication.
