Professional and college sports operates on marketing. The True Picture of Health

Description :

The health sector is projected to account for $13,000 per capita spending in 2020, which is well over $4 trillion. Current spending is $8,311 per capita, and many are wondering where all this money comes from and where it goes. The largest share of spending is by the federal government at 29 percent with states picking up another 16 percent. Private sector spending, including out-of-pocket spending, health savings accounts, and insurance plans, comes from households at 28 percent of the total and business at 21 percent.

Where the money goes is a more difficult picture. The two largest chunks nominally go to hospitals at 37 percent and physicians/clinics at 23.6 percent. The size of the chunk taken by health insurers and administrators is a contentious topic. Spending is only part of the story as well. Heart disease alone is estimated to cost $444 billion each year, and this number includes lost income alongside surgeries, services and medications.

The True Cost of Military Equipment Spending

Description :

With the American political climate in such a heated status for the past few years, there have been many discussions based on where money should and shouldn’t be spent. One area that most politicians are scared to make cuts in is the military. Housing, education, healthcare insurance and workers’ wages have all been mentioned, but only minimal efforts have been made to help these areas, with cuts being made in most of them.

The American military is the most well equipped military in the world, but at what cost does it really come. A U.S. military plane can cost over $1 billion, and several billions are spent on a nuclear program that hasn’t actually used a bomb in over 60 years. This type of spending is often said to be necessary, but if the actual cost was calculated and people saw what the nation was missing out on because of it, they may have a different view.

Inventors : The People Behind the Way We Live

Description :

There are certain items we use every day, including our refrigerators, cell phones and light switches that we don’t really consider the history behind. A tremendous amount of work has gone into our most valued inventions.

Most of us board an airplane without a thought into the history behind it. We don’t usually consider the first sustained flight by the Wright Brothers in 1903 or Lindbergh’s first nonstop trans-Atlantic flight in 1927 but we have been flying in commercial jets since the 1940s.

Despite the fact that electricity was not fully explored until the 1800s, William Gilbert explored effects of related materials as early as 1570. It was nearly 200 years later that Benjamin Franklin completed his famous kite experiments. Every time we flush a toilet or turn on the faucet we use indoor plumbing, which established roots in the 1590s with the invention of the first flush toilet.

All the World's Gold

Description :

With more and more people becoming interested in gold as an object worthy of their investment, we are seeing an increase in businesses that buy gold from ordinary consumers who are seeking to cash in on jewelry and other family heirlooms. This gold is melted down for investors to purchase in the form of gold bars. Some of the gold is reformed into new pieces of beautiful jewelry.

The shiny metal has also attracted a new generation of gold prospectors. Ordinary citizens who haven’t spent much time in the wilderness or beginning to ask themselves what it would be like to pan for their own gold. They are purchasing equipment and trying to recapture the excitement of the gold rush era, when all you needed to do was work hard, be patient, and have a little luck.

To pan for gold, a prospector holds a pan underwater in a promising stream and shakes it around from right to left. By swirling the water around, the heavier gold sinks to the bottom of the pan, while the rest of the debris flows away.

5 Public Health Nightmares Facing Humanity

Description :

Books and movies throughout the years have predicted an endless number of different ways humanity could meet its end. Though many of these theories have little plausibility, there is a kernel of truth in some of them. Unlike in movies or books, it is not likely that any hero could save humanity from destruction if these events occurred in the real world.

Pandemics have happened before and could strike again. The bubonic plague and the 1918 Spanish flu are examples of catastrophic human health disasters. Some pandemics, however, can be avoided or treated with a cure. Other global disasters could cause such unavoidable destruction that humanity would potentially end. A massive volcano eruption is one possible example. Such an eruption would have the potential to block out the sun with a huge cloud of ash and dust.

The following infographic examines five of the most plausible public health disasters, ranging from new global health pandemics to natural disasters and more.

The History of the Businessman

Description :

Business practices have evolved significantly since the dawn of human civilization. In many cases, business is the process of exchanging goods or services.

Early businesses were run by itinerant travelers and merchants. Individuals or groups would travel thousands of miles to purchase rare goods and items. After bringing these items back to their home countries, they could be sold for a significant profit.

The earliest incorporated business was formed in the mid 1500s in England. The Dutch East India Company provided a way for many people to invest in a shared business venture. Merchants and businessmen would each purchase a small share of the Dutch East India Company through joint-issue stock certificates.

The modern stock market has been in existence for almost 200 years. While business practices have evolved significantly over that time, the basis behind them has remained the same. Business is the way that individuals connect with each other to share goods and services.

Bad Piggies - The Piggest Game Ever Made by Angry Birds Makers

Description :

Bad Piggies will give you a chance to finally see the pig picture and take the role of the infamous green antagonists.

Bad Piggies - The Piggest Game Ever Made by Angry Birds Makers

Pigs Will Fly! A Puzzle Game From the PIGS’ Point of View!

Angry Birds maker Rovio Entertainment launched a new title in Thursday, allowing users to play as the Bad Piggies (A.K.A. Pigs or Green Pigs) from the smash-hit game.

"Just out today, the new game is already No. 1 among all paid iPhone and iPad apps."

The first Bad Piggies mobile game hitted app stores today for iOS and Android, allowing players to take revenge on the Angry Birds who attacked the pigs with slingshots in the original game. The Angry Birds sequel is the most-downloaded paid app among both iPhone and iPad users.

Rovio has packaged the pigs in two flavors - a standard edition for smartphones and an HD one for tablets. The iPhone and iPod Touch version costs 99 cents, while the iPad version will set you back $2.99. Both Android versions are free from Google Play, apparently thanks to a special Google promotion celebrating 25 billion downloads in less than four years.

The Head of Game Developing at Rovio, Petri Jarvilehto, Promised a Unique Gaming Experience

"It's an entirely new, completely unique game play experience. We've approached game play this time around from a very different angle. Angry Birds games are essentially like you're shooting birds with a sling shot and the way we see the birds destroy things whereas the pigs they are the builders. So this is a game that's completely based around the concept of the pigs building things - they see delicious eggs and start heading that way and start building all kinds of devices to reach their goal," he said.

Bad Piggies - The Piggest Game Ever Made by Angry Birds Makers

He said they could not live on the success of Angry Birds and that it was imperative to have a good game in order to be successful.

The Strong Angry Birds Brand was a Key to its Success, Jarvilehto Added

"What we have been doing with Angry Birds is we have been consistently building it as a brand, much stronger than the game itself. For us the big thing about Angry Birds is not necessarily the sling shot game, it's the characters, the universe, it is everything that we can create with those fantastic little birds or fantastic little pigs and that I think is a crucial difference in mind set in terms of how we've approached this," he said.

Bad Piggies - The Piggest Game Ever Made by Angry Birds Makers

Those tricky pigs have a few objects they can use - umbrellas, wings, bottle rockets, balloons, engines, and much more - but they need your help to turn it into the perfect transportation! Can you create the ultimate flying machine and steer them safely to their destination?

With more than 60 levels and free updates, you have hours of pig-crashing, exploding, and flying fun!
Get three stars on every level to unlock 30 more puzzles!

Bad Piggies - The Piggest Game Ever Made by Angry Birds Makers

And if you want to stretch your creativity, there are 4 sandbox levels, where you can design more crazy rolling and flying contraptions!

As Stated by Rovio, the Pigs Have Very Little Intelligence, Easily Mistaking a Bubble for an Egg

The pigs usually are focused on the topic food and eating. However, their building skills show improvement as the game progresses, suggesting the topic of survival of the fittest applies for the pigs.

The Infinite Stretch of the Universe

Description :

The size of the universe is incomprehensibly big. Similarly, the particles that make of the universe that we know are incomprehensibly small. Just imagining how big the solar system actually is, which is just a small dot in the universe as a whole, is nearly impossible. In order to have any type of understanding of the size of the universe, we must compare objects throughout the universe against the size of objects we already know.

The observable universe is estimated by scientists to have a diameter of over 8.8*10E^26 meters, or 96 billion light years. For comparison's sake, the Milky Way Galaxy, which is the home of planet Earth, is a tiny fraction of that size, 120,000 light years across.

A tiny grain of rice measures at 0.008*0.0025 meters big. Skin cells and viruses are thousands of times smaller than the smallest observed objects to the human eye. Yet, a single atom of hydrogen is billions of times smaller than that.

Urban Farming Is A Green Way to Improving Cities

Description :

Urban Farming is a process of growing foods within vastly populated towns and cities. These regions use up a lot of our foods and needed resources. A meal could journey greater than 4,000 miles to get from the farm to the markets and restaurants. Growing food nearer to the areas of greater demand decreases the amount of gasoline required to transport it from start location to its final destination.

Urban Farming Is A Green Way to Improving Cities

Minimizing the number of trips saves money and time. Additionally, this strategy can decrease maintenance cost of transporting vehicles. As a result, there is less need to purchase new vehicles. Toxic gases spewed into the atmosphere is greatly reduced. Urban agriculture is not restricted to fruits and vegetables.

It calls for raising livestock in the midst of the metropolis. Our "carbon "food-print" is the amount of greenhouse gases produced as meals go through the food system. Humans contribute to nitrous oxide emission when we consume food sprayed with chemical fertilizers.

The Art of Teaching

Description :

Teachers are the greatest role models a young child can have. While a mother and father can provide basic information about the world for a child, it takes the power of a professional teacher to change lives in a significant way.

Many people have fond memories of their years in high school and college. In many cases, an individual can remember a certain teacher or professor who had a profound impact on his or her educational experience. In some cases, a single teacher can steer a child from a life of crime towards a life of fulfillment.

Everything that humans enjoy in modern life is a result of education. When one visits a doctor, it's important to remember that all doctors must spend at least 10 years in a school being educated about medicine. This applies for all career fields ranging from engineering to logistics management.

With teaching, there's no limits to one's potential.

How To Survive a Nuclear Holocaust

Description :

The Fukushima meltdown reminded a new generation of the danger posed by nuclear disasters. With one in three Americans living within 50 miles of a nuclear reactor, it is time to learn the basics of surviving nuclear contamination.

Radiation is invisible, but exposure can still be minimized. Internal contamination is up to 100 times more damaging to health than external exposure. This suggests several important steps to minimizing exposure. Radioisotopes should be viewed as dust potentially covering every surface of the home. Surfaces can be cleared using wet wipes and a wet-filter vacuum at least twice a day.

As airborne particles, radiation can be kept out of the home by sealing cracks with duct tape and recirculating air via an HVAC unit for 12 hours per day. More than a few minutes spent outdoors should be followed with a shower, and overalls or a duster worn over clothes while outside.

The Secret Side of Military Spending

Description :

Did you realize that there's a secret side to exactly what the military spends its money on? Most people in our nation are not fully aware of what the money is being spent on. During the course of this year alone, $662 billion dollars have been spent for war.

The United States of America has become the location in the world that spends the most money on fighting. It spends 43 percent of all money annually on war; ironically, only five percent of the earth's population is in the United States. What does that say about how we feel about war? We spend more on our military than all other countries do combined.

It is interesting to see these military figures and realize just exactly where the money is being spent and where the money is going. It makes one wonder about the complete financial breakdown and where every single penny of military money is being spent.

Hospital Rooms of The Future

Description :

Healthcare has evolved significantly over the past few decades. With the development and spread of new communication technologies, doctors can diagnose and treat a patient from a remote location.

Hospital Rooms of the Future

For example, radiologists usually operate outside of a hospital environment. After an MRI scan, a technician will electronically transmit at image for a radiologist to read. After reading the image, a transcriptionist will create a detailed record of a radiologist's diagnosis. This is automatically transmitted back to a referring doctor. Without this communication infrastructure, it would be impossible to diagnose and treat patients quickly.

Communication technologies also allow for remote treatment of some health problems. For example, there are several robotic surgery systems that allow a surgeon to conduct an operation from a remote location. This can be beneficial when an individual is receiving an operation from a rare specialist.

In the infographic below, you'll see the "Hospital Room of Tomorrow" where advances in technology and healthcare promise to provide you with better treatment and a more enjoyable experience.

5 Great Computer Related Hobbies

Description :

Your computer can help you try out many fun and interesting hobbies. These hobbies help you tap into your creative energy and give you something cool to do.

5 Great Computer Related Hobbies

The following article explains five excellent computer-related hobbies you can pick up today.

1. Web Design

Thousands of novice web designers create stunning designs every day just for fun. You can teach yourself the basic technical skills through books and educational websites. Once you understand the basic concepts of web design, you can start to experiment with your own graphics and designs. Web design gives you the freedom to create simple designs or complicated looks that will impress even professional designers.

If you know how to design a website, you can make your own site. Many people enjoy creating personal websites to share information and pictures with their friends and family. Others create fan sites devoted to a favorite movie, book, or actor. For most people, this is a fun hobby that lets them express their creativity and interact with other Internet users.

2. Computer Games

Computer games have evolved significantly from their simplistic predecessors. Today's computer games feature eye-popping graphics, realistic sound effects and stunning musical scores. Video game players can take on hordes of monstrous creatures, run a virtual lemonade stand or solve a colorful puzzle. Most video game companies design games for a wide audience, including educational games for children.

Many of the most popular games are played online, allowing players to interact with their friends. Gamers can also find a number of quality single-player games that do not require an Internet connection. Some of the games feature rich storylines that resemble novels more than the easy games from years ago. These games provide people with a way to escape the rigors of work and other daily obligations.

3. Programming

If you learn a computer programming language, you can learn how to create your very own computer programs. Some computer programmers enjoy making video games or useful applications for their computer. This hobby helps you understand how computer programming languages work, giving you the tools you need to troubleshoot your own computer issues. Some amateur computer programmers improve their skills enough to release their own games and programs online.

4. Writing

Many writers enjoy using their computers to write. For many writers, typing on the computer is faster than writing by hand. You can easily store, organize and preserve your written works on your computer. Writing on a computer also gives you convenient access to online dictionaries and other useful writing tools.

Some writers take advantage of the Internet to improve and share their writing with others. For example, creating a journal of your life through blogging gives you a way to share your words with curious visitors on the Internet. Most bloggers write about their passions, from food to fashion. Other writers concentrate on creative writing, sharing their fictional stories and poems online.

5. Digital Art

Many computer programs give you the tools to create your own digital art. Photo-manipulation programs allow you to use your own pictures to create wallpapers for your computer. You can even use these programs to add a little humor to your family pictures; you can add funny captions or combine two photos to make an absurd scene.

Digital artists also enjoy playing with computer art programs. These programs let you paint digital pictures using a number of different virtual brushes and effects. Some digital artists use digital slates to draw with a stylus instead of a mouse. Many digital artists enjoy sharing their stunning artwork online with other art fans.

3 Up-and-Coming Social Networks to Watch

Description :

Hello everyone! How is it going? We have some interesting news today. There are 3 social networks you may not know about yet, but likely will soon. Interesting? Then read on to discover more about them.

3 Up-and-Coming Social Networks to Watch

Banjo

Designed to link existing social media users, mainly those in the younger 18-24 and 24-30 demographic, Banjo is a social media service that links users of Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare, letting them know via an audible alert when they are near friends and connections on those particular sites. For example, you could be in the same large grocery store with one of your friends from Facebook, and Banjo would send you an alert to let you know. Along with this location-based service, Banjo also lets users know about activities and events happening in their area that they might be interested in based on their social media activity and provided information.

SumZero

With the recent $1-million investment from the Winklevoss brothers, the new social media site SumZero, is definitely one that is going to be receiving a lot of attention from the popular press in the near future. The Winklevoss brothers, if you don’t remember, were involved in the development of Facebook, and have waged a major legal battle against founder Mark Zuckerberg in recent years. Designed in a fashion similar to Facebook - it was actually developed by Divya Narendra and an unnamed Harvard graduate - SumZero allows users discuss financial trades and exchange information related to the financial sector.

While SumZero only has 7,500 visitors as of September 2012, the site is expected to grow fairly rapidly, despite its somewhat exclusive membership plan. SumZero actually accepts applicants, and over 75-percent are rejected according to Narendra, who actually checks the applications himself. What’s the criteria for acceptance? SumZero only accepts certain people within the financial sector, commonly referred to as “buy-side” investors that work with hedge funds, mutual funds or private equity.

Ning

A sort of meta-social media network, Ning is designed so that you can set up your own social media type website for, well, pretty much anything you do or are trying to sell. The ingenuous thing about Ning is that it works for all types of business and individuals, from rock bands to attorneys looking to branch out in order to communicate with the public and get new business or gather contacts. Ning also helps users find people in their network that could provide them with services. Sticking with the rock band example, Ning could help a band find fans or a live sound engineer in their area to work with for an upcoming gig. Unlike many social media sites,

Ning isn’t free. While you can get a free trial of Ning, monthly membership is $24.95 for basic features, $59.95 for more advanced users looking to get more out of the social networking service, and a more expensive VIP plan. VIP pricing plans vary from business to business or individual to individual, whatever the case may be, and interested users will need to speak with a representative to get a price quote. Ning also offers a limited, mini-plan for individuals or businesses that just want to try the service out. As of September 2012, Ning has over 12,500,000 active members.

5 Essential Skills You Can Use In Any Career

Description :

To succeed in any job, you need to possess a few basic abilities. If you have a good understanding of these skills, you can quickly adapt from one career path to another.

5 Essential Skills You Can Use In Any Career

This article details five essential job skills for any job today.

1. Computer Skills

Few jobs today do not require some form of regular interaction with a computer. For most jobs, you don't need a specialized degree or even formal computer classes. Some jobs, such as those in a warehouse, only depend on your ability to input data into a spreadsheet. This type of task requires only basic typing skills.

More advanced jobs will require you to know how to use the Internet and communicate via email. If you work at business with an online store, you need to know how to communicate virtually with your clients. You also may need to have a few miscellaneous skills, including the ability use video conferencing technology.

2. Work Well with Others

To succeed in most jobs, you must possess the ability to get along well with other individuals, both colleagues and customers. If you work in retail, you must respond to the customer's needs at every moment. A bad experience with a customer can leave you looking for a new job. If you work at a sales job, your earnings may depend greatly on your ability to encourage a consumer to buy your products.

You must also get along with your fellow employees and management. An unruly employee is a liability to a company. If you frequently cause issues at the workplace, your employer may not hesitate to fire you.

3. Good Organization

Staying organized at your desk will help your performance and impress your management. If you keep an organized desk, you will always have immediate access to important documents and files you need to accomplish your tasks. A clean desk shows your boss that you're serious about your job and career.

Additionally, you need to keep yourself mentally organized. You must pay attention to every deadline you have. You can use a notebook or your computer to help you stay on track at all times. The ability to continually meet deadlines will help you in every career you attempt.

4. Solving Problems

Few employers expect their employees to have the ability to instantly solve any issue. However, employers expect you to have the skills to attack a problem directly to find a workable solution in a reasonable amount of time. Finding a solution may require to do your own research and talk to other employees in your department. In a retail position, for example, you may need to find a creative way to deal with a product shortage while keeping calm with an angry customer. No manager will appreciate you throwing a problem back at them to deal with.

5. Communication Skills

To succeed in most careers, you must communicate well through speaking and writing. Many jobs rely on teamwork for success. If you can't be clear about what you mean when you talk to your coworker, you could even create unnecessary drama at the workplace. Poor communication at the office can lead to missed deadlines and lost sales, potentially making your boss unhappy with your performance.

Additionally, you must be able to understand and take directions from your manager. If you have trouble paying attention when your boss speaks to you, you may find yourself in trouble when you miss a deadline. Learning how to listen to your employer will help you in any career.

The 5 Most Respected Hospitals in the World

Description :

What makes a great hospital? Health experts say it's an internal culture that supports good clinical outcomes. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently began making information about hospital mortality rates, readmissions and patient satisfaction available on the Internet. U.S. hospitals that get high marks on these things are hospitals where doctors, nurses, management and other health care workers are united behind a cohesive institutional mission that focuses on providing first rate to patients.

The 5 Most Respected Hospitals in the World

The United States is widely renowned as having the best health care facilities in the world, but that doesn't mean that the best hospitals are always found in the United States. Here is a look at the five most respected hospitals in the world, and the reason why health care professionals and patients both hold these institutions in such high regard.

Johns Hopkins Hospital

For the 20 plus years that the American magazine U.S. News and World Report has been ranking American hospitals, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland has appeared on top of their list. The 913-bed general medical/surgical and research facility earns top marks in psychiatry, neurology and neurosurgery, and ranks among the top five hospitals in cancer, diabetes, cardiology and orthopedic treatments. Eighty-two percent of the patients treated there say they would definitely recommend the hospital to friends and family, compared with a national hospital satisfaction rate of 70 percent.

Over 120 years, Johns Hopkins Hospital has been responsible for many major medical achievements including the isolation and cultivation of human embryonic stem cells, the discovery of genetic links for diseases like colon cancer, and the discovery of endorphin-binding sites within the human brain.

Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital

In short, it’s stronger and more intelligently designed with ergonomic and durable use in mind.

The dock connector for this generation has changed to reflect the thinner design of the iPhone 5 and a now offers a less clunky and awkward connector known as the Lightning dock. The Lightning connector is far easier to connect than the old 30 pin design, also facilitating the iPhone 5 to sync data up to 20% faster than older generations.

What About Hardware Improvements?

Speaking of speed, the iPhone 5 uses an A6 processor which Apple has claimed is twice as fast as the previously used A5 processor. This means user apps and games will run smoother, load faster, and be less prone to lag. The storage capacity shares similar improvements, with options ranging from 16 to 64GB of data

In respect to pixel density, contrast, brightness, and resolution, the iPhone 5 improves upon what was already the industry standard: the iPhone 4. The camera also supports a brand new panorama mode which allows the user to create a pictures in massive resolutions of over 10,000 x2,500.
